Fuengirola is home to just over 72,000 inhabitants and is located just 25km west of Malaga Airport. Fuengirola is easily accessible by road and also has the benefit of the coastal rail service. With its central location it is easy to see why this cosmopolitan town is one of the top spot areas for people looking to buy a property on the Costa del Sol.
Fuengirola became a popular holiday destination during the 1960’s, mainly due to the mass media coverage surrounding the worlds ‘Jet Set’ that were at the time partying a little further down the coast at the Marbella Club. At the time Marbella was almost inaccessible from the east side of the coast, and although many of the parties at the Marbella Club were widely publicised in the media, most ‘normal’ people weren’t able to travel to the west side of the coast (unless they had access to a donkey!). In turn people would follow the international press reports closely and tell friends and relatives back home that they were ‘there’ in Marbella, whilst enjoying a slightly more laid back holiday in Fuengirola!
Fuengirola has managed to retain a real polished feel to the entire town, there are some great apartments for sale in Fuengirola lining the wonderful Paseo with views overlooking the beautiful deep sandy beach (7km in fact!) Fuengirola is an ideal place to buy a holiday home especially for those wanting to be within walking distance of amenities and the beach, with most apartments fighting for space as close to the beach as possible.
The majority of properties for sale in Fuengirola are high rise builds with 1960/1970 style architecture, so sea views are almost impossible (unless you are frontline beach). Be prepared to pay for this privilege, as many beachfront apartments for sale in Fuengirola are not far off Puerto Banus prices, per square metre wise.
