Benalmadena

Benalmadena is located 19km west from Malaga and just 9km from Torremolinos.  It is another of the southern coast’s most popular tourist resorts, not to mention the massive amount of year round residents who have bought a property for sale here – the town has a total population of just fewer than 56,000. Benalmadena is home to the famous Tivoli World, Selwo Marina, Sea Life and the Estupa Budista (Buddhist Stupa, or Buddhist Temple to you and me!).

The municipality is actually divided into three separate smaller towns, Benalmadena Pueblo being the first, which is located on the mountain side of the A7 coastal road and 300m above sea level enjoying stunning views back down to the coast.

The Pueblo is a typical Andalucian village characterised by winding narrow streets and white-washed homes, clad with beautiful and bright flowerpots and Bougainvillea.  Benalmadena Pueblo has a wide variety of amenities on offer, including a bull ring, museums, a castle, sports centre, many shops, bars and restaurants plus general amenities.

The second town is Arroyo de la Miel which lies between Benalmadena Pueblo and Benalmadena Costa.  This is where most of the population in the area live, and where the majority of businesses are located. It is in Arroyo de la Miel that you will find a vast array of properties for sale. The area has a wide variety of amenities including a sports complex, bilingual library, as well as a wide selection of bars and restaurants.  The popular family theme park, Tivoli World, is also located here, as well as the world famous Butterfly Park (Mariposario de Benalmadena) – both of which are well worth a visit with the family.

Arroyo also has its own Railway station located on the route from Malaga to Fuengirola.

Benalmadena Costa is the third town, built specifically to cater for tourists and is therefore the most popular, offering many attractions such as a Casino, several nightclubs and a golf course.  Benalmadena Costa has over 9km of coastline with beautiful deep sandy beaches, all lined by the longest stretch of the Paseo Maritimo (promenade) on the entire southern coast.  There is also an extremely large Marina with over 1,000 berths.

 

Benalmadena in general is extremely flat, so getting around is relatively simple, however as you move away from the beach towards Arroyo and the Pueblo, use of a car is almost a necessity.  Benalmadena does benefit from having very good public transport, in particular the coastal Train service which runs at regular intervals from Malaga City (via the airport) all the way through Benalmadena to Fuengirola.

Some good options property wise in this area are Tio Charles (beautiful townhouses), Finca Doña Maria, Hacienda del Golf, Reserva del Higueron, Retamar Santa Matilde and El Coloso.
